In March 2024 I was traveling in southern Morocco on the edge of the Sahara desert. During Ramadan, semi-formal football tournaments are held in many towns and villages here. Teams from different parts of a city or surrounding areas play against each other – just before sunset and breaking the fast. On simple pitches, mostly sandy, stony and dusty, football brings people together.
